Costumes have been my passion for as long as I can remember. When I was small my mother encouraged my innate creativity and made me beautiful costumes to play dress-up in. She also started teaching me how to embroider when I was four.
As I got into my teens, I began making my own costumes, and taught myself to pattern-draft in order to be able to bring the ideas in my head to life. It seemed just natural to pursue costuming as a career, although I took a detour through art school on the way! My love of art history and sculpture are often evident in my costumes - in fact my training as a sculptor often comes in handy when working with unusual materials or dimensional costumes such as foam plastic armor, metal harnesses, feathered headdresses, or wings.
I have also spent over 10 years doing variety entertainment (www.stiltdancer.com), which has provided me with a unique perspective about costumes as I don't just make them - I wear them! Practicality is very important to me when it comes to my work - many of the costumes i've made need to be travelled with, and are therefore designed to dismantle or pack down.
After several years performing and making costumes for festivals and other entertainers, I decided to pursue costuming in the movie industry. I've had the opportunity to work on a variety of projects ranging from fully built fantasy productions to period and modern day styled shows.
